... And I am surviving!
It isn't all that bad at all having 2 kids. It is quite wonderful actually. Of course I do realize that I am a VERY lucky person... both my kids have sweet, even temperaments, they eat like pigs, they both are great sleepers, I have even (on some days not all) gotten them to nap (or have quiet time) at the SAME time. Please, don't ask me how, it just happens.
It helps too, I think, that Isabelle is older (3) and is able to communicate to me what she needs, when she needs it, and is potty trained, and can play, do her art work or school type books on her own, and that she loves to help out making bottles and such for William. When he cries, she makes sure that I know he is crying (even if I am standing right there) and then tries to comfort him... and it works. He quiets down when she jiggles him and starts talking to him. So cute!! I couldn't imagine what it would be like if I had two in diapers or multiples at the same time... it is 'hard' enough being drug in two directions as is.
There have been those jealousy moments when I am tending to the baby and Isabelle wants something and I cant get it or help her out... and the pouting sets in. Luckily since I ignore it, she is done (usually) in less then 30 seconds, though on days without naps (and yes, there have been those days and they are beyond rough) the pouting episodes turn into long and loud crying episodes... which I walk away from. Unfortunately, since she can walk too, she follows me... so I don't always get away... but then it turns to a game and she quits. Bribing also helps these moments, but she doesn't always take the bribes... which is odd.
Easiest part with Isabelle: Her independence. I love it!! She is in to her art, whether it is painting, coloring, stamping, etc and she loves making pictures and then putting them up on the fridge (which is getting crazy full). Every time she is finished with a picture now, while showing it to me she says, "Mommy, this is beautiful."
Easiest part with William: I can leave him on a couch to go to another room and he is still there when I get back... the best part of the infant stage. And now that he is smiling, it is even better!!
Hardest part with Isabelle: Her being sick, and having her stay on the couch under a blanket when she wants to play. The last two month shave brough many germs... first infant bronchitus, via daddy (to both kids) and now this flu thing... luckily there is no fever, but there is a lot of puking. It is Isabelle's first illness of this nature and she is a puking trooper (if there is such a thing). She makes sure that gets her 'puking pot' as she has named it, aims right for it... she does not like the mess her sickness creates. (side note: this illness hit me over a week ago, lasted 12 hrs, and nothing to anyone till 2 days ago when Isabelle randomly got sick and then mutated in her and got me ... again, and way worse. I am glad that Isabelle only got the puking and that William and Eric are still - crossing fingers- healthy.)
Hardest part with William: Hmmm... he is an infant... lets give it some time, but right now he is still a dream. :)
I look forward to all the adventures that these two are going to have, so you are to look forward to all the up and coming posts!! There will be lots, I can only imagine.
